Air Jordan 9

Air Jordan IX basketball shoe debuts November 1993.

Jordan 9 is the first Michael Jordan Nike Basketball sneaker released after his abrupt September 1993 retirement.  This timing results in a few pieces of trivia unique to the IX:

  • It is the first Air Jordan Michael didn't wear during an NBA game (*until the 'Cool Grey' edition during his Wizards tenure)
  • It is issued in baseball cleat form for Michael Jordan's days with the Birmingham Barons.
  • It spawns the Steve Martin-narrated 'Johnny Kilroy' ad campaign that nineteen years later served as inspiration for six new colorways.
