AND1 is an American basketball footwear and apparel company.
Wharton School classmates Seth Berger, Jay Coen Gilbert and Tom Austin found AND1 in 1993 as a grad school project.
AND1 trash talk t-shirts gain popularity and in 1996, the brand signs Stephon Marbury as its first spokesman.
In 1999, AND1 shoots its first commercials and print ads with NBA players including streetball legend Rafer 'Skip to my Lou' Alston. 50,000 copies of the 'Skip Tape' are distributed at camps, clinics and record labels. It is the predecessor of the AND1 Mix Tapes that cement the brand as a household name.
